Right Pride on Nevada
The Economy
- Fiscal Responsibility.
During the economic boom in Nevada, the legislature found ways to spend excess revenues. Now the revenues are gone but the programs still exist. We must use zero-based budgeting to ensure taxpayers are not punished for the irresponsible spending habits of our state government.
- Diversify.
In order to protect our economy we must diversify
beyond tourism and gaming. The current recession is a stark
reminder that when times are tough, tourism decreases and brings
our state's employment and revenue numbers with it.
- No Corporate Income Tax.
With no state corporate or personal income tax, among
other tax advantages, Nevada is extremely business-friendly. We
must continue to be a tax-friendly state in order to attract new businesses that will put Nevadans back to work.
- Renewable Energy.
Take full advantage of Nevada's open spaces and
year-round sun to create a viable renewable energy industry in
our state.
Education
- Support for School Choice.
Help families provide the best educational
opportunities for their children through Open Enrollment, School
Vouchers, and Charter or Empowerment Schools.
- Home Schooling.
Support a family's choice to home school their
children, and ensure a smooth and easy transition into higher
education.
- Accountability.
With Nevada's K-12 graduation rates at 47% (50th in the
nation), and higher education six-year graduation rates below
50%, we need real accountability. Schools and educators must be
held accountable to both parents and taxpayers.
- Transparency.
Parents and taxpayers should know how education funds are spent. Incredibly high salaries and a bloated administrative bureaucracy has taken money out of the classroom and away from our goal of educating the children of Nevada. Only through understanding why the system is broken, can we truly fix it.
- Efficiency.
The Clark County School District should be broken up
into smaller districts, taken out of the construction business,
the food-service business and the transportation business.
Furthermore, with 87% of the CCSD operating budget going to
compensation and benefits, there is almost nothing left for the
classroom.
Constitutional Rights
- Right To Carry.
Uphold our state's open and concealed carry gun laws.
These laws enable gays and lesbians, who are at a higher risk of
being the target of violence, to defend themselves.
- State Income Tax.
Uphold Nevada's Constitutional prohibition of a
state income tax.
- Domestic Partnerships.
Uphold Nevada's Domestic Partnership Law as a way to
legally recognize same-sex relationships in our state, while
adhering to the state constitution's definition of marriage.
- Nevada's Land.
Currently the federal government owns 87% of Nevada.
This land was taken unconstitutionally. We want it back.
- State Sovereignty.
The U.S. Constitution does not give the federal
government powers over marriage, health care, the environment
and many other issues -- including unfunded mandates. The 10th Amendment gives Nevada the right to handle these issues at the state level.
